Frequently Asked Questions
What are “Ballerinas”?
Ballerinas are socks similar to a ballerina shoe.
What are “Footies”?
Footies are socks that cover your feet but don't go much past your ankles. Some people also call them “booties”.
What is the difference between “Basic” and “Embellished” products?
Embellished means that the style has been further decorated by the addition of an appliqué.
Basic styles do not have such additions and have their designs based only on the fabric itself.
What is an appliqué?
An appliqué is a shaped piece of fabric or decoration, as a cutout design, sewn on to or otherwise applied to a larger piece of material to form a design or pattern in order to beautify the original piece. It is the attachment of smaller pieces of a decoration to a larger piece of contrasting colour or texture.
Other words that can describe an appliqué are: decoration, embroidery, needlework, adornment, and so on.
What is the difference between “Anti-slip” and “Complete anti-slip”?
Anti-slip means that there are spots of an anti-slip material on the sole of the sock, to prevent it from slipping, but the material of the sole is still the same as the rest of the sock. Example pictures below:
The complete anti-slip option is a type of material in which the sole of the sock is made. The whole sole of the sock is made of this material, which is different to the rest of the sock and on those styles we do describe the composition of the sole as well as the socks.

Where are the products made?
All socks, ballerinas and moccasins are produced in Brazil by Puket, a long established manufacturer that makes almost 16 million pairs of socks a year. Puket was founded in 1988 and is committed to producing their socks with minimal impact to the environment. Additionally, they run the Goodwill Socks project, which was created to turn old socks into smiles.
Puket invites everyone to drop off used, ripped, stained socks or socks missing their pair at their stores in Brazil. After that, the socks are recycled and turned into blankets, which are then distributed to the homeless and needing. Every 40 pairs of socks donated, we also bring A BRAND NEW PAIR OF SOCKS to someone needing it the most.
The Melissa shoes are produced by Melissa, a global brand with Brazilian heritage that has been around for nearly 30 years. Melissa has been working hard to design eco-friendly fashion footwear since 1979, and just in the last decade they produced more than 32 million pairs of shoes which today are sold in more than 70 countries.
Their shoes are made from eco-friendly mono materials that can be easily disassembled and recycled, as well as being completely cruelty-free with no animal products. Production is 100% efficient, with 100%-of-materials-used and no excess waste. Melissa assures us that they strive to ensure the very best working conditions for all shoe-makers and employees and Melissa shoes are made in Brazil. The shoes have been getting some publicity lately on the red carpet with Katy Perry, Agyness Deyn, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett and Kate Moss all showing off their hot Melissas.
